Tsunami in Samoa and Tonga

Tsunami torn SamoaAn earthquake-triggered tsunami consumed parts of Samoa, neighbouring American Samoa and Tonga on Tuesday, leaving 111 confirmed dead and scores more injured. Rescue workers are wading their way through coastal village rubble, looking for survivors.

World Vision does not have programmes in the affected area, but will be sending a Technical Response Team and relief supplies to work with local agencies on the ground at the end of this week and early next week.

The New Zealand Government has pledged an initial $1 million in aid to Samoa and Tonga. All funding raised for this response will support the deployment of the technical team, relief supplies and support to partners on the ground.
