By sponsoring a child, you've helped Ratlam grow.
Education
Improvements in the education system have proved so successful that the Balwadi educational centres implemented by World Vision have now been adopted by schools in the entire district. School dropout rates have also dropped significantly: from 39 per cent to three per cent in primary schools, and from 92 per cent to 19 per cent in secondary schools.
Health
Previously, health had been one of the major areas of concern, especially that of women and children. World Vision and the community have implemented a successful community healthcare system, which is now governed by the district health department. Easy access to safe and clean drinking water has also made a huge improvement in preventing waterborne diseases.
Economic Development
The Ratlam community mainly comprises farmers who had been struggling economically. Now, community-based organisations have been established to help develop the capacity of farmers and community leaders. Women, especially, are being trained to start small businesses, and young people between 18 and 35 years receive vocational training, so they can find employment and become self-reliant.
Ratlam's Journey (graph)
"I want to thank our World Vision New Zealand sponsors and donors for their sacrificial support and willingness to join hands with us to bring change in the lives of the underprivileged in spite of the economic crisis around the globe."
N.T. Murthy, World Vision Ratlam Programme Manager

The people of Ratlam may not know you by name, but they will never forget what you’ve done for them.

Like your sponsored child has grown, Ratlam has also grown in independence and confidence. Now, the people are ready to take ownership of their own community development projects, marking the end to a wonderful journey with World Vision. Thanks to the generous support of about 3000 compassionate New Zealanders, like you, the lives of 36,700 people from 50 villages have been transformed over the past 17 years.

Emergence of Hope

Julie-Ann Clayton and her fiancé, Kamal Kamal of Wellington, visited the people of Ratlam on behalf of a community of 1400 Wellingtonians who, together, are sponsoring 15 children through Trentham United Video in Upper Hutt. "We were so impressed to see how the children’s lives have improved, particularly because their farmer parents now have access to irrigation for their crops," says Julie-Ann.
