Kilimanjaro
This is an extraordinary challenge that will transport you to the heart of East Africa and to the snows of legendary Kilimanjaro as you experience world-renowned game reserves, Maasai communities and see the work of World Vision first-hand.

Kilimanjaro is a legendary peak that makes for an intense and challenging climb above the plains of Africa.

Lying just three degrees south of the Equator is the extraordinary 5,895m high, permanently snow-capped, peak of Mount Kilimanjaro - Africa's highest mountain. The ascent takes you from the lush tropical lowlands, through heath forest and into a lofty and other-worldly alpine zone. Kili offers amateur climbers one of the best opportunities in the world to climb at high altitude.

Our chosen route up the mountain, Rongai, avoids the crowds on the Marangu route and involves an additional day for acclimatisation before attempting the summit. It makes for a gradual as well as more interesting ascent and involves approximately 60 kilometres of walking. The Intrepid guides are among the most experienced and reputable on the mountain as the local agency has been running Kilimanjaro climbs for more than 70 years!

To climb to the top of Africa’s highest mountain is something to look back on with pride as it takes courage, stamina and plenty of training to conquer. What an achievement!

A second component of the challenge will be spending time in the World Vision community of Magugu. You will be amazed at the beauty of the Tanzanian people. With shouts of ‘Karibu!’ or ‘Welcome!’, you will experience for yourself the hospitality and friendliness that characterise the Tanzanian people.

In the short time that World Vision has been operating within this community there have been significant hurdles to overcome. Tanzania is a country where approximately one in six children will not reach their fifth birthday and where inadequate immunisation, poor nutrition and unsafe drinking water make children vulnerable to life-threatening diseases. World Vision is working with the Magugu community to overcome such odds. Your fundraising dollars will contribute to a water project that is desperately needed by those living in Magugu.

This challenge will be hugely rewarding. It will test your limits, it will stretch your boundaries and you will raise serious funds for a community in need.
