At Parachute 09 almost 600 children from Rwanda were sponsored and $60,000 raised to build a maternity unit in Tubehoneza. Our aim was to inspire a generation to do what is right and good, to feed the hungry, restore, rebuild and renovate – thank you to all those who took up the challenge! The plan for the World Vision site at Parachute was a “Landscape of Hope”, a place where people came to find shade, cool water and to do what is right and good with 1000 futures. Throughout the weekend there was a constant flow of people through the site; listening to seminars, drinking Fairtrade coffee (many thanks Gravity Coffee!) and sponsoring children. CEO of World Vision Australia, Tim Costello inspired people with his talks on justice and the need to walk in the footsteps of I Am. Mick Duncan encouraged people to step outside their comfort zone and Nathan King, JuliaGrace, the Parachute Band and Casting Crowns all spoke about their individual journey with World Vision and how it has impacted their lives. It was hot, it was fun and we hope we have motivated a generation. Motivated them to stand up and say that their name is Change, doing what is right and good for those living in need and following in the footsteps of I Am. A huge thank you to our incredible volunteers who gave so generously of their time. Also thanks to Thomson’s Timber ITM, Gravity Coffee and Airport Garden Centre (Hamilton) for your support. Check out the pictures from Parachute 09 here. See you at Parachute 2010. |
