Swapnali: Personality plus
Swapnali and her extend family of 12, including her grandma,
baby cousin and everyone in between, live in one room in Mumbai's
Bhim Nagar slum block. The slum consists of seven flimsy floors of
plasterboard held together by a steel frame and one luxury - a
toilet block on each landing.
But Swapnali's surroundings are not holding her back. This bright
10-year-old with personality to boot loves school. Her hand is the
first to be raised to correctly answer her teacher's questions and
she especially enjoys learning dances and songs with her
classmates.
At home she enthusiastically practices her reading and enjoys
telling her sisters stories in her native Marathi. After school,
Swapnali benefits from World Vision's Children's Club where she is
learning about her rights and a raft of other issues from littering
to child labour. This little girl, who hopes one day to become a
nurse, is well on her way to a better future.

What Swapnali's New Zealand sponsors say:
"We have sponsored through world vision for about 20 years and
consider it a privilege to invest into the lives of children.
Having visited projects in India and Uganda, we have full
confidence that our money is being wisely used to empower the next
generation with life skills, dignity and purpose."
