World Vision working through the challenges in Darfur
December 13, 2006
Despite facing a number of hurdles, World Vision staff in Darfur are continuing with their work, feeding, educating, providing medical support and water to thousands of internally displace people (IDPs).

More than two million Sudanese are living in camps, forced to flee their homes to escape the ongoing violence and murder of the Janjaweed militia.
World Vision staff in Darfur, the western region of Sudan, have been working with these IDPs since the conflict began in 2003.
Over this time, they’ve faced a number of challenges – such as recent surge in violence – but they’ve celebrated a number of triumphs as well; rehabilitating schools, feeding hundreds of thousands, fighting cholera, resettling refugees in their homes, training local health workers and providing materials to build new homes.
A partnership with the World Food Programme means World Vision is distributing food to more than 250,000 IDPs across Sudan – for so many of these, it is their only source of nourishment.
