Club Physical sponsoring children through World Vision
December 11, 2007

Eleven branches of New Zealand fitness chain Club Physical have committed to sponsoring children in Myanmar, through World Vision.

Each branch is displaying a photo and information about the child it sponsors.

Club Physical CEO, Paul Richards, hopes that by focusing on one community in Myanmar, the sponsorships will have more impact.

“I was inspired by a good friend who has seen World Vision’s projects for himself and is a strong supporter of World Vision’s work. As a company we wanted to do something to make a difference.”

Club Physical is offering one month’s membership free to new members if they sign up to sponsor a child through World Vision. New members just need to take their World Vision receipt into Club Physical to receive their free month’s membership.

“ We’ve printed hundreds of posters advertising this special offer. Staff members at each Club Physical branch are distributing these to businesses in their area. We’ve also emailed Club Physical members and encouraged them to place one of these posters in their own place of work,” says Paul.

World Vision programme officer for Myanmar Jude McCann is travelling the country in January and will visit Myeik Area Development Programme (ADP), where Club Physical’s sponsored children live. He says Club Physical’s support will make a huge difference to the people in Myeik ADP.

“Sponsoring a child makes a huge difference to the entire community. In Myeik ADP, World Vision is helping to provide education in hygiene, health and HIV-prevention. The ADP also improves classrooms and latrines and provides teaching materials. Children are supported to attend school and there is a non-formal education programme for children who cannot go to school. These are just some of the things that Club Physical’s sponsorships will help to fund,” he says.
