BANGLADESH: Floods affect many communities
7 August 2002

Many communities in Bangladesh are struggling as the recent floods are bring suffering to more than three million people.

World Vision Bangladesh has distributed food and non-food relief materials to the most needy flood victims.

Some areas in Sariakandi, a New Zealand funded area, have been inundated with rain. But the flood situation is not serious enough to respond to immediately.

Some outskirt areas of Dhaka city have also been inundated. Officials from the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center said flooding in these areas was caused by rain water and liquid waste that did not find an outlet.

August is not the end of monsoon season in Bangladesh, it may continue through September and therefore the threat of flooding continues.
