Supporting Millennium Development Goals
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are:
- To eradicate extreme poverty and hunger;
- To achieve universal primary education;
- To promote gender equality and empower women;
- To reduce child mortality;
- To improve maternal health;
- To combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other disease;
- To ensure environmental sustainability; and
- To develop a global partnership for development.
Financial services for poor households are a major part of the United Nation's Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), which strive to halve the number of the world's poor living in extreme poverty by 2015.
Microfinance significantly impacts a country's ability to achieve the MDGs, which focus on nutrition, education, health, gender equality and the environment. World Vision is mobilising its resources and orienting its programmes to achieve the MDGs. VisionFund is a critical part of World Vision's commitment to these goals.
