I am constantly amazed at the compassion and generosity of all of you who donate time, skills and finance to bring about change in the developing world.
Last week the wonderful Claire Keenan and I met with a group of about 35 supporters from Tai Tokerau to thank them and to update them on the work that World Vision New Zealand is doing and the part that volunteers play in that.
Steve and Robyn McGuire, an inspiring couple from Taipa, opened their home and hosted a BBQ.
Steve and Robyn are the regional coordinators for all volunteering activity and have been outstanding supporters for many years now. We are grateful to them and I want to acknowledge them for all they continue to do.
They are making a real difference not only in their own community but also bringing about real change to the communities overseas that we serve. The same can be said about each of you. Thank you.
We felt privileged to sit, talk and listen to the people who attended and came away feeling encouraged by the willingness of people to be involved. We are also convinced that communities sharing a common vision bring about real and lasting change. I hope to be able to hold similar events throughout New Zealand this year.
Thank you all too, for your donations for Haiti following the devastating earthquake there.
The response from New Zealanders overall was overwhelming and the total stands at over $2.1 million.
These funds are combined with other World Vision International offices to ensure aid is immediate, effective and ongoing.
