Robyn Lindsay, Christchurch
Receptionist Robyn Lindsay is not usually given to asking
strangers for money, but this year she raised over $4,500 for the
40 Hour Famine - much of it from people she'd never seen
before.
Robyn's strategy was simple. She approached her 45 workmates at
iTouch Business Mobility and got an excellent response from them.
Next she called on her family, friends and everyone she knew at
church. "Once I'd been to everybody I knew, I went to everyone I
didn't know. I started asking random people... in service stations,
a guy eating a hamburger...and I also went door knocking." Robyn
said wearing her Famine tee-shirt helped, and she'd just ask for a
donation and write out a receipt on the spot, which saved her
trying to chase up these unknown people for the money after the
Famine.
"I'm basically a reserved person, but it's not about me,
it's about the kids," says Robyn, who sponsors three children
herself and another one with friends. Robyn also organises the
Famine at City New Life Church in Christchurch.
