Partnering with our Pacific neighbours
Poverty in Papua New Guinea (PNG), Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu is comparable to, or worse than, many of the poorest parts of the world where World Vision works. These three countries have the lowest human development index rankings of all 14 Pacific countries and comprise 82 per cent of the population. However, with funding from the New Zealand Government, and through our Pacific Partners programme, hundreds of generous Kiwis are helping to improve life for children and families in our own backyard.
Focus countries: Temotu (Solomon Islands);Bougainville (Papua New Guinea); Weather Coast (Guadalcanal Province, Solomon Islands)
What is Pacific Partners?
From as little as $25 per month, you can help make a real difference in the lives of children not reached by Child Sponsorship. In communities like Temotu, the Weather Coast and Bougainville your monthly pledge will help:
-
Establish fishing and agricultural practices to increase families' incomes
-
Develop community-based plans to help people prepare for natural disasters and climate change
What does Pacific Partners achieve?
-
Through the recently completed Weather Coast Water and Sanitation project in Guadalcanal Province, Solomon Islands (2009-2012), at least 75 per cent of people in 12 communities now enjoy clean drinking water, compared to the 42 per cent in 2008.
-
Reaching 942 households (4150 individuals), the Temotu Community Sustainable Livelihoods and Resilience project in Solomon Islands (2011-2014), aims to strengthen the local economy to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and natural disasters.
-
The Bougainville Community Economic Mobilisation project in PNG (2011-2016), will help improve the economic security and livelihoods of 865 vulnerable households across ten communities in Arawa.

Water is life
Access to clean drinking water has
changed life for the community members of Logulava village,
Guadalcanal Province, Solomon Islands. "We used a stream to bath
and to do our laundry and cooking. Our children developed skin
diseases and other infections," says Nancy, a community members and
mother.
"The change came when World Vision built a water supply for the community. Now, people are so happy with the easy access to clean drinking water. Our children are also healthy," explains Nancy.
