Better sanitation means better health

Im Sim, 58, is a widow who lives with her niece in a village in Samrong Tong Area Development Programme (ADP).

For many years, Sim was in poor health and found it difficult to get enough water to keep her house clean. There was no latrine near her home and so she would use the field instead. But there were snakes there and Sim was particularly afraid to go to the field at night. As a result, she often had abdominal pain and diarrhoea.

World Vision provided materials for the community to build latrines.

“ Now I am very happy that I have a latrine and I ’m not afraid of snakes anymore,” says Sim. “And my health is better than before.”

Sim says now that her health has improved, she is spending less money on medicine. She says her whole family benefits from using the latrine.
