Milking time

In rural Dahod, it is hard for families to earn enough income to meet their needs. Ramsing knows this very well. At the end of every agricultural season, Ramsing, 40, used to leave his village for six months in search of work as a labourer. But now, thanks to a dairy project jointly run by World Vision and a local dairy company, he no longer has to migrate.

Ramsing enjoys spending more time
at home with his family.
World Vision works with a local milk co-operative to provide dairy farming training and dairy buffalo for farmers in villages of Dahod Area Development Programme.

World Vision gave Ramsing a buffalo. He has since increased his herd to three buffalo, which every day give him four litres of milk to sell and two litres for his family to drink. One of the buffalo has recently given birth to a male calf, which Ramsing will sell in a couple of years’ time.

There have been tangible improvements for Ramsing’s family as a result of this project – they now have fresh milk every day, which has improved their nutrition. Ramsing’s regular presence at home ensures his children now attend school regularly.

Ramsing is one of 40 farmers in his village who have improved their standards of living through this project.
