Since October 2004, Dahod Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

People digging wells often have to be
lowered 40 metres down the well
to carry out the task.
Health and sanitation
  • Trained 35 midwives in modern hygienic techniques and distributed delivery kits to 90 midwives
  • Taught 1,518 children from five schools about health and hygiene
  • Educated 170 teenagers about HIV/AIDS
  • Improved access to safe drinking water by deepening 86 wells, constructing three new wells, installing and repairing hand pumps, deepening two ponds, constructing three check dams and repairing two check dams
Education
  • Enrolled 674 children in primary school
  • Held an education trip and picnic for 375 primary school children
  • Facilitated 20 women to train in tailoring, 37 teenagers to learn about eye care, 12 teenagers to train in plumbing and repairing water pumps and 11 teenagers to attend a computing course
Agriculture and food security
  • Provided seeds for 424 farmers and fertiliser for 600 farmers
  • Trained 200 farmers in modern agricultural practices
  • Provided 26 farmers with plants including mango, lemon, pomegranate and rose
  • Distributed 62,800 saplings to members of five communities to help reforest the land
  • Constructed 38 lift irrigation schemes, which will assist 426 farmers from 19 communities to irrigate 730 acres of farmland
Economic development
  • Provided 57 dairy cows to four communities
  • Trained 29 families about animal husbandry and provided them with two goats each
Community leadership
  • Educated 11 community trainers and 207 children about child rights
  • Educated 435 women about women’s rights and domestic violence through ‘Mahila Mandal’ (women’s groups common in India)
  • Educated members of village development committees about topics including child rights, ability of households to respond to difficulties (resilience), and sustainable development
