Achievements
Recently, Dahod Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

    Water
  • Installed 19 wells with hand pumps; 150 families from eight villages benefited from this activity
  • Rehabilitated and deepened 150 wells in 11 villages; 300 families now have easy access to water for drinking and irrigation
  • Constructed four check dams to trap water from monsoon rains; 150 families benefited from the availability of water for irrigation
  • Provided pipes for lift-irrigation systems which carry water to villages and fields above the level of the water sources

  • Agriculture and food security
  • Trained seven farmers to keep poultry, this was done in co-ordination with a local university
  • Facilitated 200 farmers to visit water and horticulture projects in co-ordination with a local university
  • Provided dairy goats for 200 families
  • Trained 39 farmers in worm composting and organic farming
  • Supported 15 farmers to establish tree nurseries; 170,000 seedlings were provided for 200 farmers
  • Provided ginger seeds for 41 farmers
  • Provided mango, lemon, teak and rose saplings for 153 farmers

  • Economic development
  • Supported the dairy project in 12 villages and provided 25 per cent of the funds needed to establish computerised milk weighing systems in two villages
  • Assisted 84 families to purchase buffalo for milking

  • Leadership development
  • Supported monthly capacity-building training for 85 self-help groups and assisted 25 groups to apply for government registration
  • Facilitated 42 self-help group members to visit groups in another area to share what they have learned
  • Assisted 15 village development committees to apply for charity registration
  • Supported the president of a village development committee in his election to a local council
Challenges
The people of Dahod ADP still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year World Vision will focus on training village development committees and self-help groups to address their communities’ continuing challenges.
