One success inspires another
Badsole has come a long way since it was known as a village of drunks and unhappy bachelors.

Badsole's residents are using their assets wisely.

There was a time when it seemed everyone in the village was addicted to alcohol. And, says Badsole resident, Mr Dama Singh, “Because we were poor, people from other villages did not like to give their daughters in marriage to our villagers.”
Mayurbhanj ADP began working in the village in 2000. People made a determined effort to free themselves from their addictions, and a year later, World Vision lent a tractor to the community on a one-year agreement.
The community hired the tractor out and in the first twelve months earned 100,000 rupees ($NZ4137). The Village Development Committee (VDC) banked the profit, and World Vision extended the tractor loan agreement for another year.
Out of their profits the community has bought an auto-rickshaw (three-wheeler taxi) worth $4500. There are plans to buy a motorbike and they hope also to purchase the tractor from Mayurbhanj ADP. The motorbike will help community representatives network with Government offices, in order to access Government funding for development activities.
At present the community has more than $8000 in various community funds and half of the community members have opened personal bank accounts as well.
