Since October 2004, Ratlam Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

Students and their parents gathered
for the official opening of the new
classrooms.

Health and sanitation
  • Registered the identity of 443 children – birth certificates are vital for children to access education and health services
  • Immunised 965 children
  • Supported families by providing oral rehydration salts for the management of diarrhoea for 496 children
  • Provided pre- and post-natal care for 480 women and encouraged 760 women to exclusively breast-feed their newborns until at least the age of three months
  • Educated 2,134 people about prevention of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections
  • Trained 44 people in first aid
Education
  • Held an educational trip for 358 primary school children
  • Met with the parents of 273 primary school children and 100 children at intermediate school to assess their progress
  • Provided out-of-school tuition for 150 primary school children
  • Provided 97 school desks to intermediate and high schools
  • Provided intermediate schools with 400 pieces of sports equipment
  • Held a talent development programme for 80 high school students
  • Supported 22 teenagers to attend a driving course
  • Constructed four school classrooms
  • Encouraged parents to send their children to school through community meetings and home visitations; 80 per cent of primary-aged children now attend school
Infrastructure
  • Built a community hall
  • Constructed a road and a culvert
  • Constructed five rain water harvesting systems and renovated three more
  • Dug four wells, deepened five wells and laid two water pipes
  • Agricultural and economic development
  • Formed 99 self-help groups, trained 500 members and facilitated another 30 members to visit self-help groups in other areas
  • Trained 500 people about animal husbandry
Leadership development
  • Trained 300 village development committee members in book-keeping, and restructured the 40 committees; this restructuring has lead to an increase in women’s representation on the committees
  • Met with 34 community leaders to discuss children’s rights
  • Formed 15 youth clubs and trained 160 youth club members
  • Formed 29 children’s clubs, attended by 450 children
