Fact finding visit
It is always
helpful to know how someone else handles the same problems or issues as
yourself. Sharing information like this benefits both parties. This is why
Blantyre Urban ADP arranged an exchange visit for some of its community
‘movers and shakers’ to World Vision’s Nankumba HIV/AIDS
Project in Mangochi, Malawi.
The group comprised
18 committee members from Orphan Care, Home-based Care and Executive Committees,
plus three group village headmen.
The Nankumba community contributes food and funds to assist orphans and
chronically ill patients.
Inspired by this approach, the group from Blantyre Urban ADP has developed
a plan of action to convince their community to be involved in HIV/AIDS
projects in the ADP area.
The group is determined, but realises that mobilising an urban community
comprising migrants from diverse backgrounds and tribes will be more difficult
than a rural community where families have been living for many generations.
