Lifting mountains It had been on their wish list for some time. Now Yadianga, a village of 2347 people in Koro ADP, is the proud owner of a school, built this year in partnership with World Vision. The school already has a roll of 143 children, 130 of them sponsored.
“Now we have a school, everything is possible to us. We can even lift mountains.” The number of schools in Koro ADP has increased from 13 to 33 in the last three years. Enrolments have increased by 27% since 2001. ADP staff take every opportunity to tell parents about the importance of education for their children. The number of sponsored children attending formal education has increased from 491 in 2001 to 701. Among these 701 sponsored children, 294 of them are from schools built in partnership with World Vision. The 56% of sponsored children not attending school are mainly children under school age. “ Education is life, “ says Mr Bamadio. “Without knowledge, there is no development. As our children have access to education, they will become doctors, teachers, engineers and lawyers. These children who are future doctors will provide us with healthcare so that we can be physically productive. With this new school, I strongly believe that the community’s future is guaranteed.” A father who has two children at the new school wishes to add his thoughts on the subject. Fifty-year-old Amagara Guindo says that the new school has opened his children’s eyes. “They will not live in darkness, like me,” he says. “There will be a difference in my children’s lives who attend this school, a fruit of our partnership with World Vision. Their education will also help to open my own eyes.” |
