Achievements
Since October 2006, Koro Area Development Programme (ADP) has:
Health
- Educated 3,400 teenagers about HIV and AIDS
- Trained 22 young people to educate their peers about HIV and AIDS
- Trained 60 health agents about trachoma
- Trained 45 midwives
- Educated members of 260 households about nutrition
- Trained 28 people to promote nutrition
- Trained women from eight communities to grow fruit and vegetables
- Provided training for 37 members of cereal bank management committees
Water and sanitation
- Established five boreholes and repaired two borehole pumps
- Constructed 33 latrines
- Trained 24 people to maintain water pumps
- Trained 57 members of water and sanitation committees so they can educate their communities about environmental cleanliness, latrine construction, water pump maintenance and prevention of trachoma and other water-related infections
- Educated nearly 4,000 children about water-related infections
- Involved 9,500 children in environmental cleanliness days in their communities
- Established rubbish disposal areas for 40 communities
Education
- Provided refresher training for 26 literacy tutors and taught 21 more people to teach literacy
- Trained three literacy tutors to provide management training for community-based organisations
Challenges
The people of Koro still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year, World Vision will focus on continuing to improve water, sanitation, nutrition, awareness of HIV and AIDS and access to education.
