Well pleased

Rene Onte, Programme Officer for World Vision New Zealand, visited Dangatene village in Koro Area Development Programme (ADP) in March 2006. There he saw first hand the improvements World Vision has been assisting the community to achieve.

Solar panels run the water pump to fill the
reservoir tank, making water available at
the turn of a tap.
Of particular interest during Rene’s visit was the water system mentioned in last year’s project update. Community members, World Vision and the Mali Rural Water Programme, which carries out the Hilton Foundation-funded West Africa Water Initiative, worked together to drill a deep borehole to provide safe water in Dangatene. To make it easier to draw water, the Japanese government provided solar panels to run an electric water pump.

The new water system, which includes a 20,000 litre water tank, is now up and running, and proving hugely beneficial to the Dangatene community.

Rene says: “This new water system is making a huge difference for the lives of everyone in Dangatene. Water and sanitation committee members were so proud as they showed me the system. I am looking forward to helping other Koro ADP villages to have access to this kind of labour-saving technology.”
