Since October 2005, Tlilican Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

    Health
  • Trained 44 people in preventative healthcare, health law, breast-feeding, child development
  • Held a dental hygiene campaign for 600 children
  • Assessed the nutritional status of all children under 6
  • Trained 60 teenagers about HIV-prevention and established youth clubs where the teenagers can educate their peers about the risks
  • Trained 16 mothers about breast-feeding, prenatal care and child development so they can teach others in their communities
  • Established two playgroups where mothers learn about child development and have a social time with other mothers and preschoolers
  • Improved water systems, to benefit families from four communities
  • Held an environmental sanitation campaign, which included visiting homes and cleaning communities

  • Education
  • Surveyed the quality of education within the ADP area and presented the results to the Ministry of Education
  • Provided educational materials for two preschools
  • Established two stationery shops and trained community members to manage them
  • Built a single-room, multi-grade school in a remote village
  • Established 18 school councils, 18 child boards and 18 boards of teenagers
  • Organised a children’s baseball league
  • Established an adult literacy project in co-ordination with the mayor’s office; 250 people have started learning to read and write

  • Environment
  • Trained 40 children and 40 parents to manage two community tree nurseries to combat deforestation
  • Trained 50 teenagers about conservation and environmental sanitation so they can perform dramas and educate their communities

  • Leadership development
  • Trained 300 community members about social justice
  • Trained local committees about disaster prevention
  • Facilitated community leaders to study for a diploma in community development
