The following are some achievements in Papua New Guinea’s Port Moresby Urban Development Project. Since October 2004 World Vision has:

  • Rehabilitated the water systems in two communities and trained teenagers to maintain the systems
  • Established a preschool and trained five preschool teachers
  • Trained 96 women and youths in skills including baking, sewing, sign-writing and outboard motor repair
  • Facilitated a personal viability workshop for 96 people. This workshop improves self-esteem and helps people determine their skills. Many graduates are using their new confidence and skills to operate small businesses
  • Established eight women’s savings groups
  • Commenced building a community hall
  • Trained 16 community leaders in participatory techniques
  • Trained 29 men and women to maintain law and order in the communities
  • For more recent achievements of Pacific Partners projects, see Tafea Community Development Programme, and Solomon Islands Literacy Support Project.
