World Vision New Zealand and AusAIDS’s Community Development Scheme jointly fund the work in these three communities. (AusAID, the Australian Agency for International Development, manages the Australian Government's official overseas aid programme.)
Community representatives have met to identify community problems and discuss possible solutions. Trained volunteers are collecting relevant data on the communities’ strengths and weaknesses. This data will help World Vision and community leaders plan project activities.
Keisi
Most of the residents of this community are from the Gulf Province and are members of one tribe. A Community Development Committee (CDC) was already in place in Keisi, and participation in meetings and training is high.
Kipo
This community comprises a mix of ethnic groups from different parts of PNG, but mainly from the Eastern Highlands and the Morobe Province. A CDC has been formed.
Mahuru
This community is made up of landowners of Kirakira 2 village. There are other ethnic groups in this community, who have intermarried or become friends with the locals. The young people in this community meet regularly for sports events, and women are involved in activities that develop life-skills.
