Evaluation follow-up
In June 2001, a routine evaluation was made of the progress and impact of Budekwa Area Development Programme (ADP). Six villages were randomly chosen for the evaluation, which focused on areas such as leadership, education, water, agriculture, livestock and sponsorship.
The evaluation team, made up of senior World Vision Tanzania staff, village leaders and district government officials, made various recommendations for further development.
Some of the key recommendations related to education and health. Those suggestions and the follow-up action are as follows:
- The ADP Committee and community should meet with District Government officials to consider how to build a secondary school in Mwagala Division, which currently has no secondary school.
Budekwa ADP has helped two wards secure eight hectares of land for future construction. A community bank account has been opened for school fundraising.
- The ADP, in conjunction with the District Education Office, should offer more teacher refresher courses.
Refresher courses are planned this year for 65 primary school teachers from nine schools.
- The ADP should consider completing the partially completed dispensary if the District Government does not intend to.
The Government completed the building, which is now used as a clinic. The ADP provided two beds, quilts and personal hygiene products for the clinic.
