Overcoming the odds

Peter hasn’t let his disability get in the way of his achievement at school.

Peter was born with a physical disability and is unable to walk. Before World Vision advocated on his behalf Peter crawled everywhere he needed to go.

Bugabo Area Development Programme (ADP) helped his parents access government funding to obtain crutches and a wheelchair. When Peter became old enough to go to school, the ADP helped his parents secure a place for him in a school for children with disabilities, where he was admitted as a boarder.

At the end of the 2003 school year Peter obtained good results in his grade seven examinations and was selected to enter secondary school. His teachers and the ADP sought assistance from the government to pay for his secondary school tuition and boarding school fees. The ADP also helps his with incidental needs.

Peter is grateful to World Vision for giving him hope. He says, “If was not for World Vision’s help, I don’t know what I would do with my life because I cannot work on the land.”
