Achievements
Since October 2006, Bugabo Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

Health and sanitation

  • Educated 108 health volunteers and 484 parents about malaria

HIV and AIDS

  • Educated 3000 school children about HIV and AIDS

Education

  • Provided 136 desks and 4 classrooms
  • Supported 156 orphans and vulnerable children with school fees

Infrastructure

  • Improved 70 traditional water sources

Agriculture and food security

  • Trained farmers in new techniques to improve their crops and animal husbandry

Economic development

  • Continued to encourage the community’s micro credit scheme, which gives loans for small business and farming ventures; the loan repayment rate is 100 per cent
  • Strengthened existing community organisations with training in leadership skills and financial management

Disaster mitigation

  • Trained community leaders in disaster mitigation; the community has identified strong winds as a problem and plans to plant trees as a windbreak

The people of Bugabo still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year, World Vision will focus on improving the health of the community, crop and livestock management and household food security.
