Achievements
Since October 2006, Bugabo Area Development Programme (ADP) has:
Health and sanitation
- Educated 108 health volunteers and 484 parents about malaria
HIV and AIDS
- Educated 3000 school children about HIV and AIDS
Education
- Provided 136 desks and 4 classrooms
- Supported 156 orphans and vulnerable children with school fees
Infrastructure
- Improved 70 traditional water sources
Agriculture and food security
- Trained farmers in new techniques to improve their crops and animal husbandry
Economic development
- Continued to encourage the community’s micro credit scheme, which gives loans for small business and farming ventures; the loan repayment rate is 100 per cent
- Strengthened existing community organisations with training in leadership skills and financial management
Disaster mitigation
- Trained community leaders in disaster mitigation; the community has identified strong winds as a problem and plans to plant trees as a windbreak
The people of Bugabo still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year, World Vision will focus on improving the health of the community, crop and livestock management and household food security.
