The following are some achievements in Bukene ADP since October 2003:

 
Health and Sanitation
  • Trained 30 traditional birth attendants to educate the community in primary health care initiatives.
  • Held 30 community health meetings.
  • Held a health screening for students of a local school.
  • Constructed five water filters and 25 water storage jars.
  • Formed 10 HIV/AIDS committees who performed 11 HIV/AIDS education campaigns in 10 villages and involved 10 sports clubs in HIV/AIDS activities.
Education
  • Trained 10 school committees.
  • Held 10 education meetings to encourage parents to enrol their children in school.
  • Held two planning meetings with the District Education Officer and his team.
  • Facilitated mock examinations for 430 children in standards four and seven.
Agriculture and food security
  • Harvested drought tolerant maize crops successfully.
  • Trained 20 village agriculture facilitators who in turn trained 256 farmers in improved agricultural techniques.
  • Held 20 community meetings on agricultural topics.
  • Trained 10 farmers in fish farming.
  • Supported 256 farmers with the provision of 2,000 kg of improved maize seed.
  • Supported 20 farmers’ focus groups.
Economic Development
  • Held two meetings for the Bukene association of economic groups and two meetings for economic leaders.
  • Trained 141 people from 14 microenterprise groups in micro-entrepeneurship skills.
  • Set up village banking systems for 11 microenterprise groups.
Spiritual Development
  • Formed a committee of church leaders and facilitated a workshop for the committee.
