Achievements
Since October 2006, Bukene (ADP) has:

Health and sanitation

  • Provided 1500 insecticide treated nets to families

HIV and AIDS

  • Educated children about HIV and AIDS through an essay competition
  • Taught 50 students how to protect themselves from HIV infection
  • Held four meetings to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS

Education

  • Constructed three teachers’ houses and four classrooms
  • Provided primary schools with 130 desks, 2100 books and 20 sets of sports equipment

Agriculture and food security

  • Supported 20 gardening groups with training in growing fruit and vegetables and provided pumps, seeds and insecticides
  • Trained 400 farmers in modern farming techniques
  • Trained 32 people to become beekeepers and provided beekeeping equipment
  • Established four tree nurseries
  • Loaned dairy cows to 20 community members

Leadership development

  • Conducted 20 workshops in management and leadership skills for community leaders

The people of Bukene still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year, World Vision will focus on improving education facilities, food security and continuing to prevent HIV and AIDS.
