The following are some achievements in Dakama ADP since October 2003:

Pupils of Gulla Primary School enjoy
learning in their improved environment.
Health and Sanitation
  • Trained 18 village health workers and 18 traditional birth attendants.
  • Held health clinics in five villages for 1,000 people.
  • Educated five people in nutrition and malaria prevention and treatment.
  • Trained 104 members of eight village health care committees.
  • Promoted breastfeeding and hygienic feeding practices to 2,100 women.
  • Provided insecticide-treated mosquito nets to all sponsored children.
HIV/AIDS
  • Held three HIV/AIDS awareness meetings for 4,500 people.
  • Supported two HIV/AIDS committees.
  • Provided refresher training to 18 community counsellors.
  • Took 11 pastors and community counsellors to Kagera on an educational trip.
  • Identified 95 orphans and vulnerable children and supplied them with school uniforms, school fees and an insecticide-treated mosquito net.
  • Celebrated World AIDS Day.
Education
  • Constructed two classrooms and four teachers’ offices. Held 12 meetings to involve the community in construction.
  • Trained 13 school management committees and 26 head teachers.
  • Held refresher training seminars for 34 teachers.
  • Provided 1,440 textbooks to students.
  • Assisted 11 schools with mock exams.
  • Held nine community meetings to promote the importance of educating girls.
  • Supported 25 girls to attend school.
Infrastructure
  • Held nine community meetings about well use and constructed a well.
Agriculture and food security
  • Trained 210 farmers in improved agricultural practices.
  • Held a three day vegetable growing workshop for 32 farmers.
  • Provided 1.5 tonnes of improved sorghum seed and one tonne of improved maize seed to community farmers at a subsidised price.
  • Provided 10 watering cans to vegetable growers.
  • Trained 17 members of the women’s groups in food storage and preservation.
  • Trained eight farmers to facilitate primary school environmental clubs.
Economic Development
  • Trained 40 income generating activity groups in group dynamics, leadership, constitution, business discipline, finance and budgeting.
Leadership Development
  • Held three community meetings about the establishment of a community-based organisation.
  • Facilitated writing of a community-based organisation constitution and facilitated the registration procedures.
  • Trained 8 community leaders in community management.
  • Trained 42 community leaders in fundraising methods and running of committees.
  • Trained 50 community leaders in transformational development theory.
  • Took 40 community leaders on an educational trip to another ADP.
Justice
  • Facilitated a sponsored child to attend a national children’s forum.
  • Trained 16 members of children’s committees over three days.
Spiritual Development
  • Facilitated training sessions for 16 church leaders.
