Distributing cassava cuttings – a new crop for Ibuga

Achievements
Since October 2006, Ibuga Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

Health and sanitation

  • Educated 450 people about household sanitation and malaria prevention

HIV and AIDS

  • Trained 54 primary school teachers in HIV and AIDS awareness
  • Trained 120 volunteers to make home visits to people living with AIDS

Education

  • Constructed three classrooms and provided 750 school books
  • Distributed 544 text books to all 16 primary schools in the ADP

Agriculture and food security

Community members listen to a livestock training session
  • Provided 65 dairy goats and 125 chickens to families in need; recipients then pass on the offspring to other families
  • Trained community members on processing and storage of food, for better food security throughout the year
  • Trained 45 farmers in modern farming techniques
  • Provided training in fish-farming for 80 people

Leadership development

  • Provided leadership and management training for 108 community leaders

The people of Ibuga still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year, World Vision will focus on education, HIV and AIDS and economic development.
