Achievements

Discussing the formation of a community business organisation

Since October 2006, Ibwera Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

Health and sanitation

  • Constructed a pit latrine at Mishenye Primary School; the improved sanitation facilities should lead to an improvement in the students’ health
  • Installed rainwater-harvesting tanks at four primary schools
  • Conducted seminars for 250 women of child-bearing age on malaria prevention and treatment
  • Distributed 1500 insecticide-treated nets to women and children

HIV and AIDS

  • Trained three HIV and AIDS committees in how to educate people about HIV and AIDS and help people living with AIDS to improve their health
  • Provided more nutritious food for 34 people living with AIDS and 223 orphans and vulnerable children
  • Supplied school uniforms for 400 orphans and vulnerable children

Education

  • Given training to 96 language, science and maths teachers in better teaching methods

Transport

  • Distributed 24 bicycles to community members who are part of ADP committees, to make travel to meetings in the community easier

Justice

  • Facilitated a children’s committee which discusses issues including children’s rights

The people of Ibwera still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year, World Vision will focus on education, HIV and AIDS, water and hygiene.
