Iselamagazi ADP supports community tree nurseries.

Achievements

• Built one school latrine and started construction of another three latrines, four classrooms, and a house for health staff. Between October 1991 and October 2002, the ADP has helped to build 71 classrooms, 16 teachers’ houses and 10 VIP latrines (Ventilated Improved Latrines – a more hygienic form of pit latrine). The improved facilities have seen the percentage of children with a good learning environment increase from 15 percent to 95 percent during the same period.
• 91 percent of children under five years (compared with 43 percent in 1992) and 84 percent of women of childbearing age were immunised.
• Provided 300kg of polythene tubes for the community tree nurseries to help the people raise seedlings.
• Trained people in using improved mud stoves, which use less firewood.
