Health workers and volunteers learn
about malaria.
Achievements
Recently, Magugu Area Development Programme (ADP) has:
    Health and sanitation
  • Trained 26 village health workers, 14 traditional healers and 10 traditional birth attendants in malaria detection, care and management

  • HIV and AIDS
  • Trained 47 primary school teachers in age-appropriate HIV and AIDS and life-skills education
  • Held community meetings in seven villages to form a community care coalition

  • Education
  • Provided 100 two-seater desks for two primary schools
  • Started to construct two classrooms and one teacher’s house

  • Economic development
  • Formed 68 income-generating groups and trained 112 group leaders

  • Leadership development
  • Trained 40 local government leaders in leadership skills, project management and advocacy issues
  • Trained 29 development committee members in financial management and formation of income-generating groups

  • Justice
  • Trained 20 members of children’s committees in child rights
  • Educated seven advocacy committee members about advocacy issues including the dangers of female genital mutilation

Challenges
The people of Magugu still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year, World Vision will focus on:

  • Training young people to teach their peers about HIV and AIDS
  • Improving the ability of community members to support their families through agricultural and economic development activities
  • Continuing to improve the leadership skills of the development committee and community leaders
