Achievements
Since October 2006, Nshamba Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

  • Trained 56 mothers in malaria prevention and the importance of insecticide-treated nets; these women will become trainers themselves and pass on their skills to others
  • Constructed 70 rainwater storage containers
  • Constructed rainwater harvesting tanks at four primary schools
  • Hosted a meeting for young people to discuss the challenges and achievements in HIV and AIDS prevention and control
  • Coordinated a World AIDS Day celebration, where a strong HIV and AIDS prevention message was given by the Minister of Health
  • Provided health clinic with HIV test kits and supported 186 community members by providing the bus fare to the clinic, for voluntary HIV testing and counselling
  • Supported 103 orphans and vulnerable children by paying secondary school fees
  • Trained 100 community members in modern livestock management and provided them with dairy cows; the manure is used to fertilise their banana and maize crops and surplus milk helps to feed their families
  • Coordinated a three-day training for 67 leaders of community business organisations
The people of Nshamba still have a number of challenges ahead of them. During the next year, World Vision will focus on agriculture, economic development and HIV and AIDS.
