Since October 2005, Rakai-Kooki Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

    Health and sanitation
  • Held eight meetings to educate mothers about the importance of immunisation
  • Provided anti-malaria medicines for three health centres
  • Completed construction of a staff house for a health centre; this will mean that four health staff can stay near the centre and provide better services
  • Treated three water sources for high iron levels, through a specially funded project


  • HIV and AIDS
  • Supported eight community care coalitions to care for orphaned and vulnerable children; 669 new children were registered to receive support
  • Held regular meetings for community care coalition leaders and provided the groups with stationery
  • Held four training workshops for 266 community care coalition members
  • Trained 30 teachers to use Adventure Unlimited morals-based life skills course to teach their students about life skills and HIV-prevention
  • Introduced Adventure Unlimited to 10 new schools; more than 4,500 students are now taking the course
  • Supported Vision Clubs in 10 primary schools; club members use drama and sports to educate their peers about HIV prevention

  • Education
  • Provided school uniforms for 367 students
  • Completed construction of one secondary school laboratory block and a three-classroom primary school block, and continued construction of two laboratories
  • Provided furniture for the completed classrooms and laboratories
  • Held seven career guidance sessions for senior primary school students; topics included income-generating activities, the role of education, responsible behaviour and HIV prevention

  • Agriculture and food security
  • Provided 40,000 vegetable seeds, and pesticides and spray pumps for children’s gardening groups
  • Distributed goats to 192 sponsored children and their families; another 97 young goats were returned to World Vision to be passed on to other children
  • Trained families of 20 sponsored children to raise heifers, and provided them with a heifer each
