Community leader

Thanks to leadership training from the ADP, Billiat has become a role model in his community

People in Kambobe community hardly recognise the confident man Billiat has become since taking part in leadership training conducted by Mporokoso ADP.

“Before World Vision started working in our area, I had low self-esteem and thought that I could not provide leadership to anyone in the community, but now I feel very capable,” he says.

Since learning leadership and project management skills, Billiat has become an influential member of his community. He is now the chairperson of the Mporokoso project management committee – putting his skills into practice and teaching them to others too.

Billiat encourages people to get involved in community projects, such as moulding bricks to build teachers’ houses. The plan is to attract good teachers from other areas by offering them accommodation. Parents are happy to get involved in making bricks when they hear that it will ultimately mean a better education for their children.

Beyond the benefits to his community, Billiat also says the training has given him a sense of self-worth, helped him make more informed decisions and taught him to think creatively.
