Since October 2005, Nakonde Area Development Programme (ADP) has:

Home-based care workers show off
their new kits.
Health
  • Assisted the Ministry of Health to run a mobile immunisation clinic by providing 200 litres of vehicle fuel; 558 children and 884 pregnant women were immunised
  • Provided groundnuts, beans and soya beans to seven nutrition clubs, so they could make nutritious foods for children under the age of 5
HIV and AIDS
  • Held meetings to encourage community members to form support groups for people living with HIV and AIDS; as a result four groups were formed
  • Taught 50 people living with HIV and AIDS about positive living and nutrition to improve the functioning of their immune systems
  • Held three youth workshops about income-generating projects and HIV and AIDS
  • Supported the home-based care centre with medicines and nutritious foods; 317 people received care and counselling from the centre
  • Trained 82 new caregivers, bringing the total number of people trained to provide home-based care to 204
  • Provided bicycles for 14 caregivers
  • Provided 3.2 tonnes of bean, maize, groundnut and soya bean seed to 331 households caring for orphans and vulnerable children
  • Provided insecticide-treated mosquito nets to 250 chronically ill people
Agriculture
  • Distributed 10.4 tonnes of groundnut seed, 10.4 tonnes of maize seed, 3.86 tonnes of bean seed and 0.8 tonnes of soya bean seed to 495 farmers groups
  • Provided farmers with fertiliser and ploughs
  • Trained farmers in improved production techniques including the use of draught animals to increase the amount of land under cultivation
Infrastructure
  • Continued construction of Tulemane Development Trust Centre, a base for local community-based organisations
  • Built a three-classroom block
Justice
  • Held nine children’s rights and AIDS workshops for children and adults
