Wills and Bequests

Through making a gift in your will to World Vision, you will make significant impact in the lives of children and their communities. It is easy to do, does not impact on your current day-to-day living, and gives satisfaction knowing your generosity will live on.

Why make a gift to World Vision?

Why make a gift to World Vision?

We are a Christian humanitarian organisation working to improve the lives of children and families in the developing world through sustainable, community-based initiatives and emergency relief.

We work with communities to implement holistic, multifaceted development programmes. We’re also advocating change with governments and building sustainable, locally run solutions that continue to transform communities after we’ve moved on.

Our reputation and expertise enable us to access matching or multiplying funds so even small gifts can become very significant in their outcomes. We measure outcomes and continue to learn and adapt as situations change.

To discuss your wishes in confidence email Rosemary Ledingham, Gifts in Wills Manager or call her on 09 580 7785 .

FAQs

The inclusion of a gift to World Vision New Zealand in your will can be done when drafting or updating your will, or by adding a codicil (an additional legal clause) to an existing will. There are three main ways of including a gift in your will. Your legal advisor will clarify for you what best suits your wishes and circumstances:
 • Residual – the remainder of your estate after taking care of your loved ones
 • Percentage or fractional – a gift stated as a percentage or fraction of your estate
 • Pecuniary or specific - a specific sum of money, property or items.

Suggested wording:
“I give to World Vision New Zealand (CC25984) …..…% of my estate (or the residue of my estate, the sum of $.......... or a description of the property or asset given) for its general purposes and declare that the receipt of the Chairman or other authorised officer shall be full and sufficient discharge for my Trustees. “

When preparing your will, we advise seeking qualified legal advice including a solicitor, the Public Trust Office or a trustee company such as Perpetual Guardian. The New Zealand Law Society and your local Citizen's Advice Bureau can help you find a solicitor if you don't already have one.

As it may be many years before your gift becomes a reality, we encourage you not to be too specific in your will as World Vision New Zealand priorities and projects change over time. We ask you to trust our experienced leadership team to use the gift where it is most needed.

Contributions made through Child Sponsorship enable community based development programmes which bring about long term sustainable improvements for children and their communities. A gift in your will to “World Vision New Zealand Child Sponsorship programmes (or equivalent successor programmes)” in general will enable us to continue this important work.
