The New Zealand tax system encourages charitable giving by offering tax benefits. You can claim your tax credits on the last four years of charitable giving.

You are eligible to claim a tax credit if you have made a donation of $5 or more to an approved donee organisation, earned taxable income, were resident in New Zealand at any time during that tax year, and are an individual (not a company, trust or partnership).

World Vision New Zealand is a registered charity (CC25984); therefore, all donations made to World Vision over $5 are eligible. If we have your correct details, you will receive your annual tax certificate for the financial year ending 31 March 2019 in mid-April.

1. Gather all your donation receipts

You need official receipts to show that you have made a donation of $5 or more to approved donee organisations; such as registered charities, schools, and approved overseas aid funds (see IRD website for more details).

2. Complete a tax credit claim form

You need to complete and file a tax credit claim form (IR526) for the relevant tax year. To complete the form, you'll need:

  • your IRD number
  • your bank account number
  • donation receipts.

Complete only the questions on the form that apply to you and attach all your donation receipts. You don't have to do any calculations. The IRD will take care of that.

Send the tax credit claim form to:
Inland Revenue
PO Box 39090

Once you have filed your tax credit claim form, the IRD will send you notification of your refund amount within six weeks.
