Channels of Hope - Ending gender-based violence in Timor-Leste

World Vision Timor-Leste’s gender-based violence project ‘Channels of Hope’ in the Municipality of Aileu, is providing training to community groups, local authorities, and students from local schools.

The Channels of Hope project focuses on changing the community’s attitude towards gender-based violence, with a focus on gender equality at home and in the workplace. The project was a success with those who attended the workshops, and those who took part in the project are becoming examples for others in the community.

1,307 people took part in the workshops including Teus, who says his understanding and attitude towards gender-equality has changed. "Now I understand how to share duties and responsibilities, what women do, men can do," he shares.

These positive changes in understanding and attitudes towards gender-equality are helping community members build a safe environment that’s free from gender-based violence for children to grow up and thrive in.

Teus's family have benefitted from the Channels of Hope project.
