Meet your sponsored child and their community.
Imagine going into the community where your sponsored child lives. You'll eat together, hear children at the local school, and see how your kindness is helping. A sponsor visit is more than a trip; it’s a rare opportunity to connect across cultures and experience life through your sponsored child’s eyes. Many sponsors describe it as one of the most meaningful journeys they’ve ever taken—one that brings letters and photos to life in unforgettable ways.
If you’re thinking about visiting your sponsored child, you’ll need to let us know at least 3 months before you travel so we can coordinate with our local teams and arrange your visit. We’ll help confirm details for your meeting and connect you with World Vision staff in-country, the rest of your travel plans are up to you.
1. Let us know: Even if you don’t have flights booked or an itinerary, reach out to us at least three months in advance to begin the planning process. This early notice helps us coordinate with the local office and ensure everything is in place for a smooth visit. Click the button below or email our team with your Supporter ID and the details of the child you want to visit.
2. Complete the necessary forms: We'll respond with forms for you to fill out which are essential to upholding the safety and well-being of everyone involved.

Coordination and support: World Vision will coordinate with the local office to confirm your visit date and itinerary. You'll be accompanied by a World Vision escort who will guide you through the experience.
Cultural sensitivity: We'll advise on cultural sensitivity, appropriate dress, and gift selection. Generally, we ask that visitors dress modestly, covering shoulders and legs, and wear sensible shoes. We’ll inform you of local customs and religious practices to ensure a smooth visit.
A day of impact: Plan for lots of activities, with rest in the evenings. You'll have the chance to meet your sponsored child, their family, and community members. Visit local projects and see firsthand how your support is making a difference.
Physically prepare: Ensure you have the necessary vaccinations and medications. If you need to bring medication, obtain a letter from your doctor. Plan to stay in a town or city near the project for about three days, as the visit itself will take a full day or more.
Mentally prepare: Talk to people who have gone to your sponsored child's country or the World Vision team. When Helping Hurts by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert is also a great pre-trip read.
Financially plan: Be prepared to cover all your expenses, including transport, meals, and accommodation. Some sponsored communities are well away from main cities and towns, meaning that accommodation and transport options are limited. We will let you know of any costs associated to your visit well in advance.
Register your travel: Visit the NZ Foreign Affairs & Trade website to register your travel plans. This step is crucial for your safety and peace of mind.
Share your experience: After your visit, share your stories and photos with us. Your experience can inspire others to make a difference and join the journey of transformation.
