“Before World Vision constructed the mechanised water system in my area, my mother and I had to spend one-and-a-half hours for a trip, to draw clean water from a borehole that was very far from our village,” says 14-year-old Ketrina.
“This made me always late for school.
“So instead, we started using a shallow well that was dug by the elders from our village. The water from the well was not good for drinking and the well could completely go dry in summer.
“To make the water safe, we had to spend a lot of time looking for firewood for us to boil the water in order to purify it. Most of the time, we drank the water without boiling it because firewood was so scarce.
“Diarrhoea was part of our life. Most people here, including me and my family, suffered from disease because we were drinking water from an unprotected source.
