Proud of my village

Proud of my village

Before your care arrived, life was hard for children and families in Babita’s village – in many different ways.

You see, the community didn’t know about the need to care for their environment. They didn’t have any waste management systems or facilities. So they simply left their rubbish, including plastic and food scraps, where it fell.

Families also hadn’t yet learnt about a healthy diet. They didn’t know their children needed nutrition from fruits and vegetables. And they didn’t know how to grow them.

Plus, a lack of drainage meant there were pools of dirty water everywhere. It was the perfect breeding ground for mosquitoes.

You won’t be surprised to hear that children were often sick.

But because you cared, that’s all changed!

You and other kind sponsors helped transform Babita’s community into an eco village, where children and families are now thriving thanks to a sustainable, healthy way of life.

Through training in various topics, including farming, veggie gardening, and caring for the environment, families heard about new ideas and new ways of doing things.

Babita is head of the Eco Village Committee and was the first to apply what she had learnt. She started growing vegetables at home using organic fertilisers. She began feeding her food scraps to worms, and then using this compost on her veggies, which helped them flourish!

Other families in the village saw Babita’s success and wanted to join her. They bought her worm compost and started their own home veggie gardens.

Swapna, a neighbour, says Babita’s efforts inspired the whole community:

“We applaud Babita. She guided us to develop our village as an eco-village.

“Our village is clean now. We are growing and consuming more nutritious vegetables using organic fertilisers. Because of this, we have less diseases now.”

Today, there are 110 families growing healthy and strong in this eco village.

Thanks to your kindness, every family has a small vegetable garden where they grow plenty of food to eat. Often, they have extra produce they can sell at the market.

Families also planted trees around each house and along the road to provide shade. The environment is much cleaner, so there are fewer mosquitoes and flies, which means far less disease for children.

Babita’s village is now known as the ideal village! Other communities come from far and wide, keen to learn how they can grow healthy crops and care for their own environment.

Babita shares:

"I feel proud of my village now. People from all levels of our village are very conscious about environmental protection.

“We now breathe clean air. We eat organic vegetables, which protect us from various diseases. And this has become possible because of the awareness and cooperation of each of us.”

When your care comes together with the hard work of families and communities in need, it’s amazing what’s possible. Thank you so much for your commitment, which has helped change the world for children in Nilphamari Sadar!

Thanks to your support, Babita now shares her knowledge on growing organic vegetables with other village members for a healthier future for children!
