“Rokeya is my first child. She is small for a 7-year-old. Back in Myanmar, when I was pregnant with her, I had no idea about the nutrition needs of a pregnant mother,” says Humaira, who now lives in Bangladesh.
Back then, Humaira didn’t know how to care for her own health, or her baby’s.
“There were superstitions that pregnant women shouldn’t eat meat or vegetables.
“So mostly I ate dried fish. I didn’t go for a check-up during my pregnancy. And we would throw away the colostrum, thinking it’s some filthy discharge.”
Your love helped Humaira and other mums learn about child health and nutrition.
When Humaira was pregnant with her second child, your love was there to help her and other mums give their babies the best start in life.
Thanks to sponsors like you, Humaira began attending community nutrition sessions.
“I have been learning about nutrition at World Vision’s community centre. I was surprised to know that the colostrum we used to throw away is the first vaccine for newborns.
“Also, we should consume lots of vegetables to be healthy. It’s essential for our children too.
Now Humaira knew how to keep her children healthy, she faced the crushing realisation that vegetables were too expensive for her to buy at the market.
“Tomatoes and pumpkins are very costly in the market. We couldn’t afford them even if we wanted to.
“I didn’t know what to do. Now I knew about nutritious foods, but I couldn’t buy them.”
Your generosity helped Humaira to grow her own healthy food.
Sponsors like you helped mums like Humaira learn about child nutrition, and provided her with the seeds and tools to grow fruit and vegetables and keep her whole family well. Thank you!
“World Vision provided seeds and tools for me to start a garden. I planted pumpkin, beans and gourds.
“Today, we can eat vegetables whenever we want to. I can pick from the garden and cook for my children.”
Your care helped Humaira cook nourishing meals for her kids.

“Since I started cooking nutritious meals, my daughters are growing well."
“As a mother, I want my children to grow and be healthy. I’m thankful to you.”

Thank you for empowering Humaira and other mothers with the knowledge, skills and tools to nourish their children and raise healthy families.
Your kindness has grown life-changing good fruit, just like Humaira’s garden.
