What are your earliest memories? Maybe your mind takes you back to playing with your siblings in the backyard. Maybe it’s a family beach holiday. Whatever the moment, chances are you remember feeling happy and safe.
In Syria, children like 10-year-old Hiba have never known a time without war and suffering.
For 14 years, conflict has wreaked havoc here, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. Families like Hiba’s were forced to flee their homes for makeshift camps in a desperate search for safety.
The fall of the former government in December last year has reshaped the nation’s future. But what comes next is still uncertain. And the scars of war run deep.
Families like Hiba’s still can’t return to their village because of the damage and violence. Growing up in a camp for displaced people, where safety, food and water aren’t guaranteed, is the only home Hiba’s ever known.
Your love is helping girls and boys hold on to their childhoods, even in the shadow of crisis
Hiba is grateful for a safe place to play and learn. Thank you!
“
Every day, we meet children who have forgotten how to laugh or play. They are fearful, withdrawn and traumatised by the horrors they have witnessed,” says Emmanuel Isch, World Vision’s Syria Response Director.
Thanks to caring supporters like you, that’s beginning to change.
Your kindness helped create a safe, child-friendly space in the camp where for a moment, Hiba and other kids can leave their worries behind.

Girls and boys get to play, learn, and simply be kids. Hiba draws pictures. She laughs with friends. And she dreams of becoming an English teacher one day.
These may seem like small moments, but for a child who’s lived through war, they’re powerful signs of hope and healing.

In these spaces, your kindness means girls and boys receive support to help them cope with trauma, find comfort, and start to heal.
“
We cannot rebuild Syria without first healing its children. These children have endured more than any child should, and they deserve a future where they feel safe, supported and hopeful again,” says Emmanuel.

Your love and care are helping Hiba and other children to find light in the darkness. Safety where there was none. And moments of joy where they were least expected.
Thank you for believing that every child deserves safety and love. And for putting that belief into action.
Your compassion is helping girls and boys in the world’s most dangerous places to survive, recover, and build a future.
