Kiwi kids challenge themselves to make even more change

The World Vision 40 Hour Challenge belongs to the youth of New Zealand. They are proof that if you give young people the chance, they’ll step up and lead change.

This year, for 40 hours on 16–18 June, young people challenged themselves to change everything for kids who need clean water.

But Year 13 student Connor Thompson figured a group of students working together could do even more to change the world.

His idea involved 40 students from Kingsway School packing hygiene care kits for Auckland City Mission as their World Vision 40 Hour Challenge.

“I knew I wanted to do something with 40 people to get more people involved with the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge this year that perhaps wouldn’t have otherwise,” says Connor. “I felt that creating care packages for the city’s homeless was the best option.”

40 students from Kingsway School stepped up to the challenge. In 40 hours, they packed an epic 200 care packages for Auckland City Mission and raised $5,000 for clean water.

TJ Grant, World Vision’s International Partnerships Director, says Kingsway’s students have a long history of helping kids around the world.

“We are so grateful to have Kingsway School students on board. Their commitment to running this initiative and to raising funds for World Vision over the years has been incredible,” TJ says.

Their hard mahi has already made a difference to those in need in Auckland, and in rural villages in Malawi and refugee camps in Syria, clean water is starting to flow. This is what love in action looks like!

We can’t thank you enough Connor, and all the thousands of other young people across Aotearoa, who took part in the World Vision 40 Hour Challenge.

From spending 40 hours using only 40 litres of water to 40 acts of kindness, 40 hours in ball gowns, 40 sewn items, 400km cycling and a world record attempt, this year's World Vision 40 Hour Challenge was the most creative yet!

Thank you for your epic energy and commitment to changing everything with clean water.
