You’re joining forces to end violence against children in Solomon Islands

In November last year, a new three-year project aimed at ending violence against children in the Solomon Islands launched – thanks to people like you.

Our Unseen Unsafe Report showed that nearly three out of four children under the age of 14 in the Solomon Islands have experienced some form of violent discipline at home. And more than one in five adolescent girls has experienced some form of physical violence, including sexual abuse.

For the vast majority of children, this violence is occurring in a place where they should feel safest: their homes.

You’re helping to change that.

By standing shoulder to shoulder with children and young people in the Solomon Islands, you’re empowering them to lead change. They are trained and equipped to speak out in national forums with key decision-makers to end violence against children.

Right now, the legal age of marriage in the Solomon Islands is just 15. Young people in the Solomons are advocating for it to be raised to 18.

This is possible because we’re partnering with amazing Kiwis like you, the New Zealand Aid Programme, Child Fund, Save the Children, the Solomon Islands Government, and local children and communities.

This partnership aims to change harmful behaviours and strengthen laws so children are safe and protected.

This is no small thing!

We are excited about the opportunity to share knowledge and resources amongst our organisations, with a singular focus on bringing the fullness of life for every child,” says Grant Bayldon, our National Director.

Thank you for helping to build a world where children’s voices are loud and listened to. Where children can lead change. Where children can feel safe, pursue their potential and thrive.
