Thanks to the love and kindness of child sponsors we're celebrating the end of our partnership with the
Ngogwe community in Uganda. The community can thrive on their own. This is such wonderful news
It’s everything we hoped for, to see children and their families become self-sufficient. It’s what we have our sights set on from day one when we partner with communities.
Over the years, this kindness has empowered the people of Ngogwe to lead and own the changes they wanted to see. Now, they have the knowledge, skills and resources to continue making progress on their own.
There’s so much to celebrate!
Children are going to school and getting a quality education in new classrooms with plenty of desks and books to read.
“We are so grateful to have desks! We used to sit on the floor. Our uniforms were always dirty and washing them daily was hard,” says Sarah (second left in pink jacket)
Kids say they feel safer because parents, community members and faith leaders are working together to end violence against children, including child marriages. Kids know their rights too. Children with disabilities are being supported to live their best lives!
“I had been finding it difficult to move without holding onto objects like walls and sticks. Or I had to hold my sister’s hand at school. But now, this wheelchair has made my life better. I can move and am free to go to school without any hindrances,” says Marvin, age 16.
Farmers can grow enough to feed their families, with extra to sell.
“These greens are so nutritious for us and keep our bodies healthy. We don’t fall sick nowadays. I love eating them,” says Trevor, age 7 (left)
Children have clean water to drink and toilets and hand-washing stations at home and school, helping to protect them from disease.
“I am so happy that we have water at school! We used to line up in long queues with the community to fetch water, but now we have a big water tank.” Allan
Like most transformations, it has taken time. Sustainable change doesn’t happen overnight. But compassionate Kiwis like you committed to supporting sponsored children and the people of Ngogwe.
“When we first started partnering here years ago, most families had little food and no livestock, meaning they had little or nothing to eat or to sell,” says Grace Mugoya, World Vision’s Ngogwe community manager.
“People were often sick from poor hygiene and sanitation, and there was barely any safe water. Many children suffered from abuse. Few could read or write.
“Today, thanks to your kindness, that’s all changed. Young people are looking to the future filled with hope,” says Grace.
Moses is one of them. His loving sponsor Charlotte from Queenstown encouraged him to strive hard to reach for the stars. And he is! Moses, now 21, is studying and working towards his dream of becoming a human rights lawyer.
“This is because my sponsor extended her love towards me – a person she never met. I appreciate her so much!” says Moses.
“On behalf of everyone here, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you for changing so many children’s lives,” adds Grace.
“Thank you for generously and consistently supporting your sponsored child and this community to break free from poverty and build brighter futures. May God richly reward you.”
